Biography

Born in Hong Kong and a nurse in profession, Winnie Chan decided to pursue a career in visual arts after attending a course in art therapy. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) degree majoring in painting from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). In 2004 she opened a studio in Fo Tan, and has since then been participating in the Fotanian Open Studio every year. She worked with 3D to begin with. The themes of feminism and gender relation permeate her artistic creations. Her work " Story of Eight Couple' was one of the finalists in the 20th Anniversary Art Competition held in 2005 by Philippe Charriol Foundation.

Winnie Chan returned to 2D with oil on canvas for the past few years, again exploring on the role of woman in human society. She was amongst the finalists in “Impressions: Eileen Chang Inaugural Painting Award” held in 2010 and the Hong Kong Oil Painting Competition in 2012. Her style is a distinctive juxtaposition of hyperrealism on minimalism, adding a dimension of texture to hyperrealism without entailing on photographic or digital techniques in the creative process. In 2013, her work “Full Moon” received the finalist award in the prestigious Hong Kong Art Prize.
